RABBI ARYEH LEVIN OF YERUSHALAYIM, INTERESTING LETTER TO RABBI YAAKOV FERBER, INFORMING HIM THAT HE HELD A DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE RECOVERY OF HIS FATHER RABBI TZVI HIRSH FERBER, RABBI OF KEHILAS CHESED VE’EMES IN LONDON. HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER.


In this letter, written in a fine script, Rabbi Aryeh Levin writes that he received Rabbi Yaakov Ferber’s letter informing him of his father’s health condition, ‘and we immediately began to pray to Hashem Yisbarach from the depth of our hearts, together with the students of our holy Yeshiva ... for your honourable father the gaon and true tzadik, remnant of the great assembly, of the old generation, in whose shade we are protected until the coming of the true redeemer ...’

Rabbi Aryeh Levin (1885-1969), born near Bialystok and studied at the Volozhin Yeshiva before settling in Eretz Yisrael in 1905. Son-in-law of Rabbi David Shapira of Kovno, Mashgiach at Etz Chayim in Yerushalayim, renowned and respected for his outstanding kindness and saintly generosity to people in need and known as ‘the Rabbi of the Prisoners’ due to his exceptional efforts to help Jewish prisoners.
