RABBI YOSEF HACOHEN SCHWARTZ – NOTED PRE-WWII HUNGARIAN RABBI AND AUTHOR, HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER.
Letter sent by Rabbi Yosef Hacohen Schwartz to a contemporary Rabbi asking him to accept ‘the outstanding and distinguished bachur, Binyamin Raab, son of our friend the learned, exceptionally sharp-minded Torah scholar Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Hirsh’ as a student in his Yeshiva.
Rabbi Yosef haCohen Schwartz (1875-1944), son of Rabbi Naftali Schwartz, author of Beis Naftali and Rabbi of Mad. Disciple of Rabbi Yaakov Tenenbaum, author of Naharei Afarsemon, and son-in-law of Rabbi Eliezer Deutsch, Rabbi of Bonyhad and author of Pri Hasadeh and Tevuas Hasadeh. Dayan in Bonyhad and Rabbi of the Machzikei Torah community in Groswardein. Authored a large number of halachic works and edited his father-in-law’s writings for publication. For 20 years he served as editor of the respected rabbinical journal ‘Vayelaket Yosef’ including many of his own contributions.
