METTERNICH PRINCE KLEMENS VON: (1773-1859) Politician and Statesman, one of the most important diplomats of his era. Austrian Empire's Foreign Minister and Chancellor 1821-48. A good A.L.S., Metternich, two pages, 4to, Vienna, 26th November 1824, to British Ambassador, in French. Metternich shows his excellent skills as Diplomat in the present letter and states in part `Mylord, I have just learned that Your Excellency has decided upon his departure for London, early next week. Allow me to ask you, Mylord, to postpone your trip until the arrival of the courier I am expecting shortly..´, further saying `I am used to see you as the man defending the common cause and wish to see you serving as the interpreter of our cause and present our complete views on the present situation to your government. You have been informed of my last letter request to Prince Esterhazy
´ Before concluding, Metternich states `By talking to you with such frankness I am giving you a new proof of the trust you inspire to H[is] M[ajesty].
