The image shows the comedian outdoors, in a half length pose, in costume as French gendarme and corresponds to a scene of the film Le Gendarme en Balade (1970), fourth instalment of the Gendarme series. Signed in bold blue ink `Pour Jean Paul Gonzales, amitiés de la Gendarmerie, L. de Funes´, to a clear area of image, also dated 1970 in his hand. The present photograph and inscription relate to the day De Funes was awarded by the French Gendarmerie. Vintage photographs of Funes, even more in costume as Gendarme, are rare and desirable.
