 TENNIS: Elizabeth Ryan (1892-1979) American Tennis Player, Wimbledon Women's Doubles Champion 1914, 1919-23, 1925-27, 1930, 1933-34 and Mixed Doubles Champion 1919, 1921, 1923, 1927-28, 1930 & 1932. Signed 6.5 x 5 photograph of the elderly Ryan standing in a three quarter length pose being presented with a medal by Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and his wife, Katharine, Duchess of Kent on the opening day of the Wimbledon Championships as part of the centenary celebrations of 1977. Signed by Ryan in blue ink to a clear area at the base of the image, also adding June 20 1977 in her hand to the lower border; Jack Crawford (1908-1991) Australian Tennis Player, Wimbledon Champion 1933 and Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Champion (partnered by Elizabeth Ryan) in 1930. A.L.S., Jack Crawford, one page, 8vo, Potts Point, Sydney, 28th January 1977, to Jocelyn Thomas. Crawford states that he was very pleased to receive a letter of congratulations including 'a message from my mixed doubles partner of 1930, Miss. Ryan' and adds 'The award received from Her Majesty the Queen was very much appreciated and I would be happy if you would both accept my sincere thanks'. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Crawford. VG, 2
