Fancy Indonesian Headhunters Sword w/Scabbard
Indonesia, Dayak Peoples Mandau headhunters sword with scabbard. Fancy and quite ornate sword with a very well pierced bone handle with affixed hair in white, orange and black. The grip wrapped in a brown multi-patterned rattan with resin coating. Blade a wide double edge with diamond shape. Scabbard extremely colorful with a wood core covered in multiple layers of orange, blackish-red, and white hair under openwork panels of bone. Affixed over the openwork panels additional multi-colored strands of bead bands in geometric chevron patterns. Known for their long standing tradition of taking heads and souvenirs like scalps or body parts the headhunters have now been outlawed and Dayak peoples mostly used the sword as a working weapon such as a machete. Size 27 1/2" L, blade 15 3/4" L
