2 Mechanical Banks Jonah & the Whale, Speaking Dog
Shepheard Hardware, United States. Group of two 19th century American cast iron mechanical banks including:
One "Jonah and the Whale" mechanical bank, ca. 1890. Depicting the whale cresting above the waves with the biblical figure on a boat beside it.
One "Speaking Dog" mechanical bank, ca. 1885-1895. Depicting a young figure standing on a chaise lounge with a pet dog sitting obediently next to them.

Height: 6 in x width: 10 1/4 in x depth: 4 in.
Condition: There is heavy patination and wear throughout both banks. Much of the original polychrome is gone from both. The "Jonah and the Whale" bank works correctly when the level is depressed. The bottom latch is not firmly attached and held to the bottom of the bank with a piece of tape. Lacking the key. There are four round, green felt tabs affixed to the underside. The "Speaking dog" bank seems to function but not perfectly and likely needs some fine tuning. All pieces are present and attached.
