An almost exact quote from Alexander Pushkin’s recording in the album of the singer Praskovya Arsenyevna Barteneva (1811-1872) “Of the pleasures of life, music is inferior to love alone, but love is also harmony” (1832). Subsequently, Pushkin’s phrase “Music is inferior to love alone” is repeatedly quoted in Russian literature, used in the titles of concerts, exhibitions, articles, etc.
Lermontov dedicated a madrigal to Praskovya Bartenyeva in 1831: “Tell me: where did you adopt seductive sounds...”. Karl Bryullov painted her portrait in the 1840s. From 1834, for more than 20 years, Praskovya Berteneva maintained friendly relations with Mikhail Glinka, who practiced his romances with her; she also became the first performer (in a concert on March 23, 1838) of Lyudmila’s cavatina from his opera “Ruslan and Lyudmila”;
