1949 - premiere of the ballet "The Bronze Horseman".

Reingold Gliere - People's Artist of the USSR. Laureate of three Stalin Prizes of the 1st degree. Author of the official anthem of St. Petersburg - "Hymn to the Great City" from the ballet "The Bronze Horseman".

Composer Reinhold Glière thought about writing a ballet based on Pushkin's poem in the late 1930s, at the same time rough sketches of music appeared. In 1941, the script for the performance was approved, but the Great Patriotic War began, and then no further work was started. In the autumn of 1944, the composer returned to ballet and composed the main musical themes. The production of the performance was planned for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pushkin, which was widely celebrated in the USSR in 1949. In 1950, Reinhold Gliere received the Stalin Prize of the 1st degree for the music for the ballet The Bronze Horseman.
