Tyrsa Nikolai Alexandrovich (1887–1942).

One of the leaders of the Leningrad school of the 1920s-1930s, a brilliant watercolorist, an outstanding book artist. In 1905 he entered the architectural department of the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. In 1907–1910 he attended the Elizaveta Zvantseva School of Painting and Drawing, studied under the guidance of L.S. Bakst and M.V. Dobuzhinsky. In 1910-1911 he attended evening drawing sessions in the workshop of V.V. Mate. In 1918 he was appointed commissioner of the First State Free Workshops of Decorative Arts, led their reorganization into VKHUTEMAS. Since 1921 he worked as a book artist. In 1932, he became one of the founding members of the Leningrad Union of Artists, developed a new method of color lithography - brushing on stone with a brush.
