Letter by R' Yosef Tzvi Kalisch of Skernovitz-Kartchov, Bnei Brak, 1938.
Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Kalisch (1886-1957), a scion of Vorka, was a son of R. Shimon of Skernovitz, who in turn was a son of R. Menachem Mendel of Vorka. Renowned as a great Talmid Chochom, in 1935 he was asked by R. Yitzchok Gerstenkorn to serve as the first Rov of the newly founded town of Bnei Brak. Held in great esteem, he was instrumental in establishing the orthodox character of Bnei Brak.
Skernewicz was a Polish Hasidic, a branch of Warka. The founder was Rabbi Shimon Kalish, a son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Worker.
