R. Eliyahu Luantz, Rabbi of Worms (1464-1531) was born in Frankfurt to R. Moshe, son of R. Yoselman, who was a descendant of the Luria family. R. Eliyahu was a well-known posek and rabbi. He was known as Rabbi Eliyahu "Ba'al Shem". He was a close disciple of the Maharal of Prague and also a friend of the Tosfos Yom Tov. He does mention the Maharshal and the Arizal, who were relatives of his. A recognized disciple of his, is the Ba'al Shem of Zamość, Rabbi Yoel.
