Letter of the Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Betzalel Alter Hy''d son of the Holy Rebbi, the author of the "Sfat Emet" of Gur, sent to the chassid Rabbi Yisrael Arotin of Lodz, author of Emet VeEmunah, 1906.

Letter from the Holy Gaon Rabbi Moshe Betzalel Alter to his friend, Rabbi Yisrael Arotin, who was one of the elder chassidim of Gur in the Holy Land, 1906.

Rabbi Moshe Betzalel Alter Hy''d (1869–1942), son of the "Sfat Emet" (Rebbi Yehuda Aryeh Leib Alter of Gur), was known for his complete devotion to his brother, the "Imrei Emet" (Rebbi Avraham Mordechai Alter). In the will of the Imrei Emet, he appointed his brother, Rabbi Moshe Betzalel, as his successor to lead the chassidim. Tragically, he was martyred along with most of his family in the Warsaw Ghetto during the Holocaust. May God avenge their blood.

Rabbi Moshe Betzalel's humility is evident from the "kvitel" (note) he wrote to his brother in 1939 (5699), upon reaching the age of 70:
*"When it was in your holy mind to direct me towards greatness, and in my many sins, I was not worthy of it, my request, at least, is this – please bestow upon me a spirit of purity, a spirit of knowledge and fear of Heaven, to return in complete repentance and to merit answering those who sent me the words of truth (Imrei Emet), according to the will of the Blessed One."*

Rabbi Yisrael Arotin A''h a disciple of the "Nefesh Chayah, who spent 23 years under the spiritual guidance of the Sfat Emet and later merited to follow the Imrei Emet and the "Beit Yisrael" (Rabbi Yisrael Alter). He passed away in Jerusalem at the age of 92 in 1958. He authored "Alon Bachut, " which is part of the sefer " Hashevet Yehudah, " a work about the Sfat Emet.

Rare and significant letter.
