Par de pistolas inglesas do séc. XVIII, manufaturadas para um oficial de marinha pelo armeiro John Rea.
Pair of English pistols from the 18th century, manufactured for a naval officer by the gunsmith John Rea, established in Minories, London, from 1777 to 1812. Octagonal barrels in the first half, changing to cylindrical, muzzle-loading, with the inscription "REA SUCC. / STR / TO M / r / BUMTORD. MINORIES = LONDON" on the top and Tower of London proof and inspection stamps on the left side. Brass side locks, with the armorer's name "REA" in a reserve in the center. Steel "swan neck" hammers with vegetal engravings and safety notches on the rear. Wooden stocks with carved buttplates and checkering near the tangs. Silver fittings with elaborate vegetal motifs and trophy of arms, with London marks and the year mark of 1778. Whalebone ramrods with silver tips and iron worm. No silver marks, over 50 years old, in accordance with Decree-Law 120/2017, of September 15 - art. 2, nº 2, letter c). Signs of use, slight traces of oxidation, and good mechanical function. Approx. total length: 35.5 cm; Approx. barrel length: 20.5 cm; Caliber: 14 mm.
