Gilt Bronze Four Glass Clock, Mercury Pendulum
Gilt bronze four glass mantle clock with mercury pendulum, ca. 1900, the 3" round French enamel face with Arabic chapters with floral garlands and simple Roman hands, the two train movement with anchor escapement, calling the half hours on a bell, back plate numbered "837 / 4.1" and inscribed "H&H" (for Harris & Harrington) and "Made in France", twin chamber adjustable mercury pendulum; the gilt bronze case with beveled glass panels. 9" H x 5.25" W x 4.75" D Note: LOCAL PICK UP ONLY. J. J. Elliott / Harris & Harrington of London were clockmakers and case makers of fine clocks at the turn of the century. The firm had important American clients, and it is likely that this clock was assembled in Britain and sold to the US after 1890. The "Made in France" stamp refers to the painted enamel dial rather than the clock and its works, and was a marketing pitch to cater to the American desire for French products. LOCAL PICK UP ONLY
