A Magnificent Charles X Neo Gothic Rod Automaton Mantel Clock, France, 1780-1820.
The Automata is a type of clock where flow of water is simulated through a twisted glass element. In clocks of this type, while the clock is working the internal mechanism rotates the twisted glass rod, thus simulating a flow of water into the water bowl at the base of the clock, which is filled with water. Sometimes, the lower glass bowl was filled with real water and flowers, thus watering the flowers.
Working condition unknown. A museum piece.
The mechanism of the fountain is in working condition.
