Crescent metal butt plate with sliding cover to compartment, straight grip, the top tang engraved 'MODEL 873', the lower '316852' with integral lever safety. The forend with rounded metal endcap. Dovetail foresight, full length tubular magazine, the octagonal barrel engraved 'WINCHESTER's REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CONN. USA KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED etc', adjustable buckhorn rearsight. Side plates, sliding dust cover on integral rail.

M - C, F - C. W - B. B - C The stock of pleasing, aged walnut with only vestigial dents. The action retaining much original blue finish although thinning with slivered edges and minor spotting. The barrel with little original finish and more spotting. A good shooting bore frosted with softened rifling. Very pleasing indeed. Fault with sear, hammer does not stay cocked when lever is actuated, but hammer stays back when engaged manually.
