RABBI CHANANYA YOMTOV LIPPA TEITELBAUM (1836-1904), REBBE OF SIGHET, AUTHOR OF KEDUSHAS YOMTOV, LETTER TO R. DOV EHRMAN, AUTHOR OF DEVARIM AREIVIM, WISHING HIM PROSPERITY AND GOOD MAZEL .


This letter was sent by the famous Rebbe of Sighet to Rabbi Dov Ber Ehrman of Kleinwardein, author of Devarim Areivim and Pe’er Vechavod – collections of authentic chassidic stories. The Rebbe wishes him New Year greetings and many other blessings, and IN THE LAST FEW WORDS OF THE LETTER, IN HIS OWN HANDWRITING AND WITH HIS SIGNATURE, wishes R. Ehrman success in finding a good source of income and that his mazel should be raised.

Rabbi Chananya Yomtov Lippa Teitelbaum, son of Rabbi Yekusiel Yehuda – author of Yetiv Lev and Rabbi and Rebbe of Sighet, and son-in-law of (I) Rabbi Menashe Horowitz of Ropshitz, and (II) Rabbi Yoel Ashkenazi of Zlotshov. Rabbi Chananya Yomtov Lippa was renowned for his Torah scholarship and saintliness and was a close adherent of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. He was Rabbi of Tecs (1864) and succeeded his father as Rebbe of the Chassidic dynasty of Sighet and as Rabbi of the town in 1883. He was the devoted leader of his community and large Yeshiva, and was one of the most influential Rabbis in Hungary. Author of Kedushas Yomtov.
