Benoît Jacquot (born February 5, 1947 in Paris) is a French film director and screenwriter.

Biography

He began his career as assistant director to Marguerite Duras. Although he began making films in the 1970s, Jacquot became a regular presence at European film festivals only in the late 1990s: he was in competition at Venice four times (in 1997 with Le Septième Ciel, in 1999 with No Scandal, in 2006 with L'Intouchable and in 2014 with Three Hearts) and three times at Berlin (in 2012 with Farewell, My Queen, in 2015 with Journal d'une femme de chambre and in 2018 with Eva). At Cannes, he competed for the Palme d'Or only once, in 1998 with L'École de la chair, while in 2004 his À tout de suite was presented in the Un Certain Regard section and the following year he was a member of the jury of the main competition.
