Jonathan Becker (1982), painter, born in Tel Aviv. Thelma Yellin High School graduate. Graduate of the Jerusalem Painting and Drawing Workshop.

"The inner language of my painting evolved from an encounter with art and places."
Over the years, Jonathan traveled mainly to Greece on the island of Lesbos, where he painted refugee children, and the landscapes of the island.

Jonathan studied at a painting and drawing workshop in Jerusalem and Italy with painters Israel Hirschberg, Ken Cioli, and Stuart Shiles.
'' I learned to love to draw, to love to paint, to love colors. In paintings the connection between the colors is both physical and imaginary.
I draw from the harmony between reality and my imagination, the drawings and paintings deal with the movement and clarity of shapes and structure. The connection between space and character. The intimacy and touch between the characters. I draw from both imagination and observation. ''

'' For many years I painted in oil on canvas. But in recent years I have been painting with ink, acrylic and plaster, on canvas and papers.
I like to paint with a brace knife.
I like to create huge paintings on canvas. It's important to be experimental and playful, the studio should be like a crazy lab. ''

The noticeable influences on Jonathan's works come from the worlds of sculpture, visual theater, puppets
"I'm in dialogue with painters like Kevin Paulson, Scott Daniel Allison, Rotem Amitsur, Ken Cioli, Picasso, Baltos, Greeks."

'' There is a story in the painting but it is not literal. There are usually a few sentences there, a few stories that usually do not become a single literal story. But remain as a visual state. ''
