Polemic against Christianity: Achiya Shiloni Ha'Chozeh – Leipzig, [1864] – Extremely Rare, Has Never Been Seen in Auctions
Rareness: has never been seen in auctions. Extremely rare.
Background: a book that was written in response to the book "Netivot Olam" (The Old Paths) by a convert named Alexander McCaul, which was published in London in circa 1800 and which defamed Judaism and the Jewish nation.
The book: Since the book contained criticism of Christianity and the Christion Mission, it wouldn't have received the approval of the Russian censor and was therefore published anonymously in Germany.
In the copy before us, on the last page, there is a printed leaf on which it is written that the gematria of the book's title is "Yitzchak Dov Levinson". It is possible that in other copies of the book, this page does not exist.
Yitzchak Ber Levinson was a pioneer of the Jewish Enlightenment Movement in the Russian Empire.
144pp.
Condition: Good. An ancient signature on the title page.
