Medal – Synagogue in Cape Town, 1905
A medal commemorating the founding of the Great Synagogue in Cape Town, South Africa, September 13, 1905. Obverse: Image of the Synagogue building, and below the Hebrew date (5665). Reverse: Star of David with the words “Tikvat Israel Community" (Hebrew) and in a circular frame the words “Great synagogue cape town - Consecrated 13 sept. 1905” (English). [The name Tikvat Israel refers to the “Cape of Good Hope” Rock, after which Cape Town is named.] Diameter: 35 mm. Bent with grooves.
