Copper Tray – Illustration of the Spies – Persia
Tray with illustration of the spies. [Persia, early 20th cent.]. Cast and engraved copper. A rectangular tray, with an illustration of the spies returning from spying out the Land of Israel. Three figures with a cluster of grapes are seen in the center. In front of them is a figure with a stick and behind them a figure with a basket on the head and a fruit in the hand. In the background are trees and structures in a Persian architectural style. Inscription above and under the illustration: "and they told him: we saw the country and this is its fruit". Floral borders. 27X37.5 cm. Somewhat bent borders.
