One Hundred Sheet Music Booklets – Jewish Songs – USA
100 sheet music booklets. Most published by the Hebrew Publishing Company, USA, 1897-1934. English and Yiddish.
Most of the booklets contain sheet music for one piece each. Most of the songs were composed by early 20th century Jewish composers in the US. Some were published separately, whereas others were written as part of Yiddish and English operettas and musicals. A few of the booklets contain sheet music for liturgical songs or sheet music of pieces composed by various cantors.
These songs reflect the flourishing Jewish culture brought into the US by Eastern Europe immigrants and many express nostalgia for the "old country" and deal with immigration and Jewish life in America.
Some booklets appear in several copies.
Average size of most of the booklets: 27X35 cm. Overall good condition.
