Early Decorated Ketubah – Kashan, 1834 – One of the Earliest Ketubot from Kashan

Ketubah. Kashan, Isfahan province, Iran, Nissan 1834.
Colorful decorated ketubah, one of the earliest extant ketubot from Kashan; possibly the earliest. The text of the ketubah occupies the center of the leaf, with rhyming verses above it in two columns. The texts are enclosed in a rectangular frame comprising additional blessings in alphabetical order, colored in orange; topped with a multifoil arch. The edges are filled with large floral and foliate ornaments, colored in orange and green. Additional verses of blessings form a frame around the entire leaf.
Signed by the writer and witness Moshe son of R. Yissachar, followed the signatures of the other witnesses and an addition in Judeo–Persian (in Hebrew characters).

Approx. 57X42 cm. Fair condition. Stains. Wear, creases and folding marks. Tears and open tears, affecting text and ornaments, repaired with paper.
