Dedication on the title page to the Beit Midrash in Safed, by the author (the dedication was written in Rashi script, and it is unclear whether the author himself wrote it, or if it was written on his behalf).
R. Refael HaKohen of Hamburg (1722-1803), leading Torah scholar of his generation, in the times of the Noda BiYehuda, the Shaagat Aryeh and the Gaon of Vilna. Served as rabbi of Minsk, Posen, and later of the joint community of Altona- Hamburg-Wandsbek.
His book Marpe Lashon is one of the first books to raise awareness on the mitzvah of guarding one's tongue and laws of forbidden speech.
