Tur Even Ha'Ezer - Venice, 1565 - Printed in the Lifetime of the Author Rabbi Yosef Karo - the Copy of Rabbi Shmuel Ziya, One of the Rabbis of Metz during the 16th Century - Scholarly Glosses
Tur Even Ha'Ezer with the 'Beit Yosef' commentary. Venice, 1565. Printed by Zuan di Gara. "With the printing presses and typeface of Bombergi". One of the editions that was printed in the lifetime of the author, Rabbi Yosef Karo.
On the title page, an early inscription: This book belongs to … Rabbi Shmuel Ziya of Metz". A similar inscription appears on leaf 21.
He is most likely the genius Rabbi Shmuel Ziya who was a disciple of Rabbi Ya'akov Margalit of Nürnberg. Sometimes Rabbi Ziya was called "Maziya". He served as a rabbi in Frankfurt am Mein in 1542. No other books or manuscripts that belonged to him had survived!
Additional signatures on the title page and its reverse side. Among others of Yosef ben Rabbi Shmuel of [Wink?].
Approximately fifteen short scholarly glosses and additional corrections in ancient script.
On the last leaf, faded signatures.
Condition: Good. Moth signs. Wear. The last leaves are restored with certain damage to text. No binding. Most of the leaves are detached. Dampness and fungus stains.
