Writ of Rabbinical Ordination of Rabbi Aharon Milevsky - Handwritten and Signed by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, with the Rabbis of Lithuania - 1930 - Given to the Rabbi during his Wedding! - Extremely Rare
Writ of Rabbinical Ordination given to Rabbi Aharon Milevsky when he was chosen as the rabbi of Alytus. The leaf is handwritten and signed by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis. It is also signed by six of the rabbis of Lithuania. 1930.

It is extremely rare to find an original rabbinical writ from Lithuania handwritten and signed by the rabbis of Lithuania! All the more so a writ of rabbinical ordination given to the rabbi during his wedding by the rabbis of the area, who came especially to the wedding to give him his ordination, headed by Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis!

Rabbi Nachman David Kolidtzki served as the rabbi of Alytus. In 1925, he died and the community remained without a spiritual leader. Four years later, in Tamuz 1929, an Alytus-born young man, Aharon Milevsky, returned to his hometown to marry Fia, Rabbi Kolidtzki's daughter. At the end of the wedding ceremony, in Adar 1930, when he was twenty six, he became the rabbi of Alytus, replacing his father-in-law.

Before us is the writ of rabbinical ordination given to Rabbi Milevsky during his wedding!

And this is what was written in the writ:
"The undersigned rabbis have gathered for the wedding of the groom Reb Aharon Milevsky … who married the daughter of Rabbi David Nachman Kolidtzki, who was Av Beit Din of Alytus. And we have decided and told the community that from now on the position of rabbi of this town Alytus belongs to the above Avrech…"

The first to sign the writ of ordination is Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, Av Beit Din of Kalvarija, who also handwrote the document before us. After his signature, appear the signatures of the following:
Rabbi Avraham Ze'ev Ha'Levi Heller Av Beit Din of Mariampol - a genius, published Torah novellae. His manuscript on the Rambam was lost during the Holocaust. He was murdered in 1941.
Rabbi Avraham Moshe Witkind Av Beit Din of Butrimantz (1882-1941), author of "Toa'fot Re'em". Died in the Holocaust.
Rabbi Dobver Schnitzer Av Beit Din of Simna (1888-1941), who also signed the Ketbah of Rabbi Milevsky. Died in the Holocaust.
Three additional rabbis who served as rabbis of cities of Lithuania signed the document.
All in all, seven rare, important signatures.
