Letter Printed on Impressive Official Stationery - the Writing of "the General and Jewish Encyclopedia in Hebrew" - Nachum Sokolov - Warsaw, the Beginning of the 20th Century - Rare
Letter by the editorial staff of the encyclopedia headed by Sokolov requestiong "to assist in writing the entries of the encyclopedia … we are well aware of the responsibility we have taken upon ourselves … to present them in an orderly manner…"
The letter documents Sokolov's forgotten attempt to write a "General Jewish Encyclopedia". Sokolov believed it was important to publish a general encyclopedia, presenting before the Hebrew reader "entries from the wide, non-Jewish world".
Sokolov sent this typewritten letter to various figures, asking them to write entries for the encyclopedia. He asked them to reply whether they agree to assist him and to which fields of knowledge they can contribute.
However, the encyclopedia was never published due to lack of funding.
Condition: Very Good.
