RAMSAY WILLIAM: (1852-1916) - RAMSAY WILLIAM: (1852-1916) Scottish chemist who discovered the noble gases, Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry, 1904. A.L.S., W. Ramsay , to the recto of a plain 12mo postcard, University College, Gower Street, London, n.d. (2nd March 1894), to Joseph Achille Le Bel, in French. Ramsay states that he will be travelling to Paris on the morning of Monday 19th March and will do his best at the conference, although remarking ´Mais je n´ai jamais essayé de parler en français devant une auditoire´ (Translation: ´However, I have never tried speaking French in front of an audience´ ) and further asking ´Ayez la bonté de m´informer où il me faut me rendre: chez vous, ou aux appartements de la société?´ (Translation: ´Please be so kind as to let me know where I should go: to your home, or to the society’s premises?´ ).
