RAY MAN: (1890-1976) - RAY MAN: (1890-1976) American visual artist, a significant contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements and a renowned pioneering fashion and portrait photographer. Small portion of an Autograph Manuscript, unsigned, one page, 12mo, n.p., n.d., in pencil. The autograph notes relate to Man Ray´s childhood memories in Philadelphia and state, in part, ´Man of many facets sitting on doorstep drawing of kittens paint green shutters steeple beyond coal yard, nuts on New Year old woman urinates spreading legs apart.......´ At the foot of the page Man Ray writes ´(See ”Le Beau Temps”)´ . VG Le Beau Temps (1939) is today housed in the collections of the Philadelphia and was considered by Man Ray as one of the culminating works of his surrealist painting. In his biography, Self Portrait (1963), the artist describes the origin of the painting and how it grew out of a dream he had during the tense years before World War II.
