MALLET-STEVENS ROBERT: (1886-1945) - MALLET-STEVENS ROBERT: (1886-1945) French architect and designer. A scarce A.L.S., Ton vieux ”Dear Rob” , one page, 4to, Rue Vezelay, Paris, n.d. ( ´Mercredi´ , c.1920), to ´Mon bon petit Punch chéri´ (probably Andrée Rose Léon), on his boldly printed stationery, in French. Mallet-Stevens writes in affectionate terms, explaining that his correspondent´s lovely letter had made him very happy and remarking ´Tu sais je me dépêche bien ici pour repartir le plus vite possible vers vous et enfin vous revoir. Les nuits sont bien tristes pour moi: plus de petite fille qui mâche quand je t´embrasse le soir....´ (Translation: ´You know, I’m working hard here so I can get back to you as soon as possible and finally see you all again. The nights are very sad for me: no more little girl chewing away when I kiss you goodnight....´ ). Mallet-Stevens further reports ´Et ce matin, mon petit déjeuner, malgre un beau reste de cramick (sic) ne fut pas très agréable´ (Translation: ´And this morning, my breakfast, despite some lovely leftover cramick (sic; cramique, a traditional Belgian brioche bread stuffed with raisins), wasn’t very enjoyable´ ) and also lists various dishes that were on the menu at Rue de Naples including cold roast pigeon with mayonnaise, veal cutlets in sauce, and Gruyère cheese. In concluding Mallet-Stevens sends two photographs (no longer present) taken at Billancourt, although adds that they are not very good ´mais demain si le temps le permet on en fera d´autres´ (Translation: ´but tomorrow, weather permitting, we’ll take some more´ ). Autograph letters of Mallet-Stevens are scarce as a result of his archives being destroyed, upon his wish, after his death. VG The present letter was most likely addressed to Andrée Rose Léon (1891–1978) who would become Mallet-Stevens´s second wife in April 1921.
