PICASSO PABLO: (1881-1973) - PICASSO PABLO: (1881-1973) Spanish painter, a co-founder of the Cubist movement. A good illustrated A.L.S., Picasso , one page, 4to, Vallauris (Cote d´Azur), 21st February 1953, to Max [Pellequer], in French. Picasso states that he is returning a form Pellequer had asked him to sign ´pour la caisse d´allocations vieillesse des artistes (arts graphiques et plastiques)´ (Translation: ´for the artists’ old-age pension fund (graphic and visual arts)´ ) and also enquires if some plates have arrived, explaining that they were sent a few days ago. In a small series of three postscripts the artist further writes ´Je vous envoi aussi les deux feuilles une bleue l´autre blanche que je devais vous signer aussi - voici encore deux nouvelles choses faites. Je vous envoi tous les détails que Paulo me donne sur les voitures que j´ai dans une collection de vielleries´ (Translation: ´I am also sending you the two forms, one blue and one white, which I was also supposed to sign for you – here are two more new things I’ve done. I am sending you all the details Paulo has given me about the cars I have in my collection of old bangers´ ) and concludes by explaining that he has been in bed for several days with flu. To the upper right corner of the page Picasso has illustrated the letter with a drawing of a bright sun. None of the enclosures referred to by Picasso in the letter are present. A few very minor, light creases to the edges, VG Max Pellequer (1903-1973) French banker and art collector who would become Picasso´s private banker, financial adviser and close friend. Pellequer assembled an important collection of artworks in the 1920s and 1930s which included a number of significant early pieces by Picasso, as well as works by Paul Cezanne, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro and others. Almost two hundred letters from Pellequer to Picasso are preserved in the Musee National Picasso in Paris.
