PICASSO PABLO: (1881-1973) - PICASSO PABLO: (1881-1973) Spanish painter, a co-founder of the Cubist movement. An excellent and attractive vintage signed 6 x 4 postcard published by the Musée d´Art Moderene de Céret, the image being a reproduction of Picasso´s lithograph Le Taureau Noir , created as part of the artist´s Le Taureau series (December 1945 - January 1946). Signed ( ´Picasso´ ) by the artist in blue fountain pen ink with his name alone to the upper white border. One very slight, extremely minor paperclip indentation to the upper left corner, VG Picasso's celebrated Le Taureau sequence, executed at Fernand Mourlot's Paris workshop between December 1945 and January 1946, represents one of the artist's most compelling explorations of the passage from representation to abstraction. Across eleven successive lithographic states Picasso progressively reduced a powerfully modelled, naturalistic bull through increasingly geometric forms until arriving at an almost hieroglyphic image composed of a few essential lines. The sequence provides an unusually revealing visual record of Picasso's creative process and his extraordinary ability to identify and preserve the essential character of a subject while eliminating almost every descriptive detail.
