THIBAUD JACQUES: (1880-1953) - THIBAUD JACQUES: (1880-1953) French Violinist. Thibaud died in an airplane crash. His 1709 Stradivarius disappeared with him. A fine A.M.Q.S., ` Jacques Thibaud´, one page, to a postcard, 28th April 1910, addressed to Madame Levy-Weis in Mulhouse. Thibaud has penned four bars of music, which he entitles as being from Ludwig van Beethoven´s `Sonate à Kreutzer´, adding beneath the tempo ` Andante´. To the front the postcard shows animage of an Alsacienne wearing a typical dress of the region. Postmarked and stamped. G to VG The Kreutzer Sonata is a violin Sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven, No. 9, op.47, composed in 1803. It is a sonata for piano and violin, notable for its technical difficulty and unusual length. It is commonly known as the Kreutzer Sonata after the violinist Rodolphe Kreutzer, to whom it was ultimately dedicated, but who thoroughly disliked the piece and refused to play it.
