SUETTE HUGO: (1903-1949) - SUETTE HUGO: (1903-1949) Austrian Nazi official and SA leader who participated in the failed July Putsch of 1934 as an SA-Obersturmführer and later served as NSDAP Kreisleiter of Deutschlandsberg from 1938 until the end of World War II. In the closing weeks of the war Suette was implicated in, and in some cases gave orders for, the summary execution of resistance fighters and others in his district. Although arrested by the British in September 1946, he escaped from the Wetzelsdorf internment camp near Graz two months later and fled to Erlangen, where he died in 1949; consequently, the criminal proceedings instituted against him were never concluded and he was never brought to trial for his wartime crimes. Suette writes a letter of condolence upon learning of the death of his correspondent´s second son, Ferdinand Wedem, remarking ´Thus this Party comrade, as a holder of the highest decoration of the NSDAP, fulfilled his oath to the Fuhrer with his death to the very end´ , adding that Truckenthaner and his wife have suffered a grievous burden, and further writing ´I am convinced, however, that ultimately you, as a German, as a Party comrade and fellow fighter of the Fuhrer, know that in an extremely difficult struggle such as that which the German people now have to wage, it is precisely the best who must fall again and again´ .
