BAYE JOSEPH DE: (1853-1931) - BAYE JOSEPH DE: (1853-1931) Joseph Berthelot, Baron de Baye. French archaeologist, ethnographer, collector and traveller. An important early investigator of the prehistoric archaeology of Champagne, Baye subsequently travelled extensively throughout the Russian Empire, undertaking archaeological and ethnographical research in Russia, Siberia and the Caucasus and assembling significant collections for French museums. President of the Société nationale des antiquaires de France in 1906. A.L.S., Baron de Baye , to the recto of a picture postcard featuring an image of the grounds at Kuskovo, with various lines of trees and statues, Kuskovo, Moscow, 3/16th June 1915, to Monsieur le Commandant Martin at Bougival, in French. The Baron states that his correspondent will receive his card when he will be at Mikhaylovskoye, explaining that he is only staying for eight days at Kuskovo, and further remarking ´Donnez moi des details sur ce que vous faites et sur ce qui se passe là-bas. Mon éloignement, me semble bien long et je m´inquiete pour ma femme et ma fille et je pense à Baye bien tristement´ (Translation: ´Please give me details of what you are doing and what is happening over there.
