WORLD WAR ONE - GORZ: A very attractive title-award, one page, oblong 4to, Felde, October 1917, in German. The document refers to the occupation of the city of Gorz (Gorizia for Italians) by the 58th Austro-Hungarian infantry division in October 1917. The carefully penned document states `The tricolor Italian flag bearing the Royal crown has been taken down from the town hall after the surrender of the city of Gorz, on the morining of 28th October 1917, and has been replaced by the yellow and black flag and this in a definitive manner.´ Signed by Erwin Zeidler von Gorz (1865-1945) Chief General of the 58th infantry division, who obtained the title of Baron von Gorz as a result of the occupation of the city. Also signed by the leading officers of the military division, including Josef Vortuba (1879-1959), chief of head-quarters and future General. The attractively written and ornated document bears a red wax seal of the infantry regiment in very fine conditions at the base. Contained in the original light brown leather scallop shape frame, 6 x 10, with attractive gilt stamped decorations to the borders and the gilt stamped crest of the Austro-Hungarian to the head. With the original black and gold coloured string tassels attached. VG £150-200
Gorz returned under Italian control on 10th September 1919 after the treaty of St. Germain-en-Laye was signed.
