NAPOLEON I: (1769-1821) Emperor of France 1804-14, 1815. A good L.S., Nap, one page, 4to, St. Cloud, 27th April 1811, to the Duc de Feltre, in French. Napoleon instructs `Order that the 11th regiment of Hussars supply 20 former Hussars, all from Holland, to complete the 2nd Regiment of Lancers of the Imperial Guard.´ Accompanied by the small 12mo holograph receipt, pinned to the bottom left corner. VG £1000-1500 Henri Jacques Guillaume Clarke (1765-1818) Marshal of France in 1816, one of six created under King Louis XVIII from 1815-24. Duc de Feltre and Minister of War under Napoleon. The 2nd Régiment of Light Cavalry, Lancers of the Imperial Guard, also known as the Red Lanciers (''Lanciers Rouges''), was a light cavalry regiment in Napoleon´s Imperial Guard. They were formed in 1810, after the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France, being their original purpose to serve as Hussars of the Dutch Royal Guard. The units were of an elite order, and were known for their loyalty and military might. Their first campaign would be the Russian campaign of 1812, suffering enormous losses against the Cossacks and under extremely hard weather conditions.
