GOUVION ST. CYR: DESCRIPTION TO FOLLOW

GOUVION SAINT-CYR LAURENT DE: (1764-1830) Marshal of France, Marquis de Gouvion Saint-Cyr. Very rare L.S., `Gouvion St Cyr´, two pages, folio, Sava, 22nd March 1804, to Marshal Berthier, in French. The document bears the heading of the Kingdom of Naples troops, on the printed stationery of the Lieutenant General and Counselor of State Gouvion Saint-Cyr, beneath an attractive vignette. Gouvion states in part `It is certain that corps of Russian troops, formed by fifteen hundred men, will arrive to Corfou to reinforce the existing ones; they keep announcing the arrival of troops of debarkment from the black sea. I can only keep on referring to my previous letters about the preparations done by the Neapolitan..´ further saying `..for several days there is an English wing of nine sails standing in front of Brindisi and Otranto..´ To the upper left border bearing an A.N.S. by Louis Alexandre Berthier (1753-1815) Marshal of France, Prince of Wagram and Neuchatel. Chief of Staff under Napoleon. Signed `Ml. Berthier´, annotating a day after and on receipt of Gouvion´s letter `..write a report for today at 3h´. A letter of very interesting content. Folded. Small overall minor age wear and creasing, otherwise G  £1000-1500
