Indian Lawyer, anti-colonialist, and Political Ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the campaign for India´s independence from British rule. Assassinated. Gandhi became since an iconic inspiration for civil rights and freedom claims all over the world. Gandhi´s birthday is known worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. A.L.S., `Bapu´, in Gujarati, one page, to a postcard, n.p., 29th March 1929, to Bhai Beramji Khambhata, at Hornby Rd., Bombay fort, in Gujarati. Gandhi sends a short message to his correspondent before his arrival, stating `Dear Bhai Khambhata, Your letters have been safely received. I will arrive there on the 5th; however, it will be better to reschedule. Please meet me in Mumbai. Regards, Bapu.´ Gandhi was also called ''Bapu'', which means ''Father'' or ''Papa'' in Gujarati.
