ALCALA-ZAMORA NICETO: (1877-1949) Spanish Lawyer & Politician. Leader of the Republican revolutionary committee who, after serving as Minister under King Alfonso XIII, pushed the King to leave Spain and go into exile in 1931. Alcala-Zamora served as the first Prime-Minister of the provisional government of the Second Spanish Republic, and its President 1931-36. A good L.S., Niceto Alcala Zamora, signed twice, two pages, folio, thick brown paper, Madrid, National Palace, 15th February 1935, to Cuban President Carlos Mendieta, in Spanish. The document bears at the heading ''Niceto Alcala Zamora y Torres, President of the Spanish Republic'', and is the acknowledgement of the Spanish provisional Republican Government of the newly appointed Cuban Ambassador and Plenipotentiary Minister Carlos Manuel Céspedes y Quesada. Countersigned by Minister of State Juan Jose Rocha. With Binder holes to the left border. G £80-120 Carlos Mendieta y Montefur (1873-1960) Cuban Provisional President of Cuba 1934-35.
