GOTTWALD KLEMENT: (1896-1953) Czechoslovak Communist Politician, Chairman of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia 1929-53. Gottwald served as Prime Minister of Czechoslovakia 1946-48 and as President of Czechoslovakia 1948-53. A rare official T.L.S., Gottwald, one page, 4to, Prague, 14th January 1949, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Czech. Gottwald confirms the appointment of Karla Hoyera on a third scale salary 'in the personal, state of officials and administrative services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' with effect from 1st April 1948. Countersigned by Vladimir Clementis (1902-1952) Slovak Politician, a prominent member of the Czechoslovak Communist Party and Foreign Minister of Czechoslovakia 1948-50. VG £600-800
