RADETZKY JOSEF: (1766-1858) Austrian field Marshal and Bohemian noble. A good L.S., `V.Radetzky Fm´, one page, 4to, Verona, 26th April 1856, in German. The letter bears to the upper left corner a blind embossed seal stating ''K.K. Lombard - Venez - General Gouvernement''. The document states that due to the very favourable information received, there is no objection to the admission of Giovanni Battista Clerici to the civil service. Light fold, otherwise VG £200-300 Radetzky served as chief of the general staff in the Habsburg Monarchy. A disciplined but fair man beloved by his troops, known as Vater ('Father') Radetzky. He served until age 91. He was immortalized by Johann Strauss I's Radetzky March commissioned to commemorate Radetzky's victory at the Battle of Custoza.
