FAROUK OF EGYPT: (1920-1965) King of Egypt and Sudan 1936-52. He succeeded his father Fuad I, and was the penultimate King of Egypt. Farouk´s sister, Princess Fawzia Fuad, was the first wife and consort of the Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlevi. Farouk was overthrown during the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 and forced to abdicate in favour of his son, Ahmed Fuad, who succeeded him as Fuad II, last king of Egypt, deposed only a year after. Farouk died in exile in Italy in 1965. A very attractive L.S., signed by the King in Arabic, one page, folio, Royal Palace of Abdine, Cairo, 25th January 1940, to King George II of Greece, in Arabic. Very attractively penned, with gilt letters, the fine paper bearing to the front two large and different blind embossed seals, and a large watermark being the former Egyptian flag with a moon and three stars and text in Arabic. Farouk announces to King George that his Plenipotentiary Minister and extraordinary envoy to Athens will be replaced and has to return to Egypt. Countersigned by Ali Mayer. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original large envelope, with gilt letters to the front, bearing a paper seal in very fine condition affixed to the verso. Also accompanied by a full translation into French.
