STANISLAW II: (1732-1798) Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Last King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania 1764-95. Lover of Catherine the Great, he was a great patron of the arts, but still remains a controversial figure in Polish history. An excellent L.S., Le bon Frere - Stanislas Auguste Roy´, a very large and good signature example, one page, 4to, Warsaw, 27th March 1771, in French. Stanislaw II refers to the letter received from his correspondent announcing the death of Prince Frederick William, and sends his condolences and support stating in part `I sincerely share the pain that such a loss must have caused to Your Majesty..´. With blank integral leaf, and a C&I Honig attractive watermark. With extremely small pinholes, otherwise VG £2000-3000 Frederick William of Brandenburg-Schwedt (1700-1771) Prussian Prince and Margrave of Brandenburg. Nephew of King Frederick I of Prussia.
