MONTGOMERY B.L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. A.L.S., Montgomery of Alamein, one page, 8vo, Isington Mill, Alton, Hampshire, 16th November 1960, to Captain Jeffrey Hernu. Montgomery thanks his correspondent for their letter of birthday greetings and remarks 'I am spending my birthday in bed, with a throat infection; but it is yielding to treatment', concluding 'I am glad you are well and happy in your life'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Montgomery to Hernu at the 1st Regiment of the Royal Horse Artillery. VG £100-150 Jeffrey Hernu (1932-2007) British Major who served as ADC to Montgomery when he was NATO's Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe 1951-58.
