French Marshal General, one of the greatest military leaders in modern history and the most illustrious member of the La Tour D'Auvergne family. L.S., Turenne, one page, 8vo, Camp near Oudenaarde, 23rd October 1667, to Monseigneur Hasset, in French. Turenne writes in his capacity as Marshal General of the Camps and Armies of the King and states, in full, 'Please let through freely and surely Sir Le Champelain, Lieutenant in the Royal Regiment, leaving today for a month of six weeks for France, without any impediment to his footmen and horses'. Turenne's signature is a little light in places, although legible. Some light overall age wear and minor creasing. Together with Lord Raglan (1788-1855) British Field Marshal, commanded the British troops during the Crimean War. Raglan gave the order which led to the Charge of the Light Brigade.
