Small portion of a D.S., W Sidebottom, one page, oblong 12mo, n.p. (France), n.d. (October 1918). The typed text states, in full, '(b) Whilst on Low Offensive Patrol six E[nemy] A[ircraft] were observed near VERTAIN. Lieut. Barbour and Lieut. Sidebottom dived on one EA and fired good bursts. This EA was observed to go down out of control by another pilot - Sgt. Fidgen.' Countersigned at the foot by Lieutenant D. B. Barbour. The text relates to the circumstances of Sidebottom's twelfth aerial victory on 23rd October 1918. Autographs of Sidebottom are rare in any form as a result of his early death at the age of 27 when he was shot and killed by Bolsheviks as he tried to escape from a forced landing during a bombing mission on part of the Persian Socialist Soviet Republic.
