A brief A.L.S., Ernest Jones, on one side of his personal printed correspondence card, Elsted, near Midhurst, Sussex, 29th November 1952, to Dr. Alfred Winterstein ('Dear Friend'). Jones writes, in full, 'I am greatly obliged to you for the further information, which is very useful'. Hand addressed by Jones to the verso to Winterstein in Vienna, Austria. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG £150-200 Alfred Robert Winterstein (1885-1958) Austrian Psychiatrist, a member of the Vienna Psycho-Analytical Society from 1910-58. Winterstein first met Sigmund Freud in 1908, attending his lectures at the Psychiatric Clinic on Saturday evenings. A student of Freud, upon giving a presentation of his interpretations of Shakespeare's Hamlet, Winterstein made an apology for his many quotations from Shakespeare's plays, to which Freud ironically remarked 'Bring as many quotations as you can, they will certainly be the best part of your paper'.
